Senior Ecologist
Location: Hybrid, Office based in LE17 6LN
Salary: £30,000-£45,000 per annum, DOE + Benefits
Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Origin Environmental is an environmental consultancy specialising in trees, ecology, and land surveys. We work with clients across sectors including infrastructure, renewable energy, and development. Our dynamic team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Ecologist to join us in delivering innovative and sustainable solutions.
Job Role:
As our Senior Ecologist, your responsibilities will include:
1. Leading and managing ecological surveys and assessments, including PEA, BNG, protected species surveys, and EcIAs.
2. Providing expert advice and guidance to clients on ecological matters, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practices.
3. Developing and implementing mitigation and enhancement strategies to minimise ecological impacts and deliver biodiversity net gain.
4. Preparing high-quality ecological reports and technical documents.
5. Mentoring and supporting junior ecologists to foster a collaborative team environment.
6. Managing projects, including budget control, invoicing, scheduling, and client liaison.
7. Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
* A degree in Ecology or a related discipline.
* Extensive experience in ecological consultancy with a proven track record.
* Comprehensive knowledge of UK habitat and protected species legislation and survey methodologies.
* Good botanical identification skills, ideally FISC level 3 and above.
* Experience in EcIAs and planning applications.
* Excellent report writing and communication skills.
* A full driving licence.
* Protected species licenses are highly desirable.
* Experience with Biodiversity Net Gain calculations, implementation, and reporting, with familiarity of BNG guidance and legislation.
