X1 Design Manager (M&E)

Job Summary:
Our client is a fast-growing M&E Contractor based in West Thurrock, owned by a well-established main contractor turning over close to £180m. Their M&E division is expanding rapidly due to strong growth and success, which means they have an exciting opportunity for an M&E Design Manager to join their team. They deliver projects across London & the Southeast, including residential, commercial, data centre, healthcare, and education sectors.
Duties:
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Build and maintain excellent client relationships, communicating effectively at all levels.
* Manage, influence, and motivate team members, planning workloads and prioritising tasks.
* Oversee M&E design, including reviewing consultant submissions, coordinating with all professional parties, and ensuring compliance with employer’s requirements.
* Prepare and monitor project design delivery plans, appointments, and schedules in line with RIBA milestones.
* Implement procedures for the flow and quality of design information to pre-construction and operational teams.
* Capture project variations, identify Value Engineering (VE) opportunities, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
* Attend client meetings, tender interviews, and project meetings as a company representative.
* Support operational teams with technical guidance and maintain strong knowledge of the Building Services industry, including coordination with other trades and post-design considerations (procurement, construction, H&S, handover).
Experience:
* Proven experience with both a consultancy and a contractor and working as part of a project team
* Able to demonstrate a minimum of 10+ years’ experience delivering design and construction in a similar role within the industry (Mechanical or Electrical)
* Experience working on large projects including a diverse knowledge across a range of sectors including Commercial and Residential
* A recognised degree in either mechanical, electrical or building services engineering
* Professional membership with either CIBSE or the IET is preferred
* Competent with Microsoft packages, CAD, BIM, Bluebeam Revu and other related design software.
