The Vacancy
Are you an aspiring Head of Finance? We have a fantastic opportunity to join our fast-growing organisation and take the lead on financial reporting for the parent company.
Introduction to the role
You will be responsible for financial accounts preparation and the budget cycle for capital and revenue activities for Watford Community Housing. The role offers a bridge to a Head of Finance role and provides development opportunities including exposure to Board meetings and reports, and other skills required for a future head of service role. The role will suit an experienced, qualified accountant who is ready to take the next step in their career.
Role purpose
The postholder will be responsible for and lead the budget cycle from preparation to monitoring, and reporting for revenue and capital which includes a healthy development programme. You will also lead the preparation of the statutory financial accounts and will deliver the service with the support of a team of four staff. You will use your accounting and interpersonal skills to effectively support and challenge budget holders to deliver the Group's objective of remaining financially secure.
What's the role?
You will:
* Be the Lead Finance Business Partner to budget holders in the business
* Be responsible for the delivery of core financial information to management
* Lead an effective budget setting and performance reporting process
* Support managers with business case preparation
* Lead and manage the accounting for capital expenditure
* Lead the financial year end and manage the audit
What are we looking for?
You will be a customer-focused leader of the finance reporting function, with the ability to interact with a wide variety of people. You will be numerically strong with sound financial principles. You will have the relevant skills and desire to develop your team to meet the current and future demands of an effective finance reporting function.
Essential:
* At least two years' experience leading financial and management accounts
* Qualified CCAB/CIMA Accountant
* Experience managing and developing staff
* Recent, relevant experience of producing statutory financial accounts from trial balance
* A hands-on approach to delivery
* You will need to maintain a satisfactory basic level DBS check.
Desirable:
* Experience and knowledge of the housing sector
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel
* Knowledge of VAT and partial exemption
* Experience of developing staff to become qualified accountants
