The Role:
As the Senior SACT Nurse, you are responsible for delivering chemotherapy nursing services to patients within the unit and deputising for the line manager where required. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact and develop your career.

* Experience in intravenous drug administration

* Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology or a related specialty to be confident and competent in the required skills

* Experience and competence in blood transfusion and bone marrow biopsies
Main duties of the job
What You'll Do:
* Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals throughout all stages of treatment
* Ensure high standards of evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing chemotherapy, including assessment, planning, and documentation
* Manage a patient caseload and liaise closely with medical consultants
* Order diagnostic tests within agreed parameters and run nurse-led clinics
* Work autonomously while providing clinical leadership, ensuring accurate care plans and documentation
* Demonstrate advanced skills in intravenous access, central venous catheter management, venepuncture, and chemotherapy delivery, including management of anaphylaxis and extravasation
Qualifications and Knowledge:
* NMC Registered Nurse
* UKONS SACT Passport or to be completed within three months of appointment
* Fully trained and qualified in venepuncture and cannulations, with experience in various central venous access devices
* UKONs training and experience in oncology telephone triage, including recognition and management of neutropenic sepsis

Job responsibilities
As the Senior SACT Nurse, you will deliver chemotherapy nursing services, deputise for the line manager, and provide expert clinical leadership. Your key responsibilities include:
* Practising advanced life support for acute treatment complications
* Participating in out-of-hours support and triage
* Developing communication with stakeholders and supporting clinical protocols
* Ensuring care aligns with protocols and standards
* Working with radiographers and outpatient staff to maintain holistic care
* Informing patients about procedures and treatments, securing informed consent
* Supervising and participating in staff education and mentorship
* Leading research projects and clinical audits
* Maintaining accurate records, adhering to confidentiality and NMC standards
* Participating in service evaluation and practice review
* Ensuring compliance with safety and quality measures
Your key relationships include internal staff such as Centre Leaders, nurses, pharmacists, consultants, radiographers, and external stakeholders.
Person Specification
Experience
* Minimum 2 years nursing experience, preferably in oncology
* Experience in intravenous drug and chemotherapy administration
* Competence in blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies
* Qualified in venepuncture and cannulation
* Willingness to train towards or hold a recognised chemotherapy qualification
* Experience with oncology telephone triage and neutropenic sepsis recognition
