Job Purpose: The Platform Engineering Lead is responsible for leading and performance managing the platform engineering team, consisting of platform Engineers and DBAs. This role ensures that services meet the current and emerging needs of the business through close collaboration with the wider IT Team and other key stakeholders within the business. The Platform Engineering Lead will drive the strategy and implementation of more efficient and effective ways of working collaboratively as a team. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Lead the Platform Engineering team, including day to day management of team members. Take on full responsibility for Windows servers, both virtual and physical, hosting a wide range of business applications across manufacturing and other areas. Responsible for HyperVisors including ESXI and Hyper-V. Responsible for services including DNS, infrastructure DC hardware, Identity Management as well as on-prem and Cloud infrastructure. Support the Enterprise Architecture team in defining and implementing organisation-wide security policies. Manage AD Domain Services on premise as well as looking after Entra ID in Azure. Responsible for domain and certification across internal and external areas of the organisation. Troubleshoot complex issues surrounding the AML estate at both software and hardware levels, working with other team members (networks, storage, application) to resolve issues quickly and put measures in place to mitigate recurrences with the incident/problem manager. Attend cross-functional meetings to help drive appropriate, cost-effective design solutions to support business goals and strategy. Follow IT processes to ensure OLAs and SLAs are met. Develop solutions focused on reducing operating costs and/or increasing customer experiences. Develop AML IT roadmaps for platform engineering year-on-year and manage current project delivery to align with roadmaps and budgetary requirements. Provide technical assistance and mentoring to the IT team as needed. Manage and develop the monitoring toolset(s)/event management for all systems. Manage, develop, and maintain a multi-cloud infrastructure including Azure, AWS and Alibaba. Qualification & Experience: Essential experience: Proven Experience in Senior Technical Roles: A minimum of 7 years in senior technical roles, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of complex technical issues and the ability to resolve them effectively. Experience should include leading technical projects and initiatives. Experience managing a multi-cloud environment: Extensive experience with Azure, AWS & Alibaba including architecture, deployment, management, and troubleshooting. Proven ability to integrate these services into existing infrastructure and optimise their use. This includes SSO, Enterprise applications, Azure Devops and Terraform for IAC. Windows Server Infrastructure: Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with on-premise and cloud Windows Server infrastructure, including installation, configuration, optimisation, and maintenance. Familiarity with infrastructure services such as DHCP, DNS, and DFS. Networking: Broad understanding of LAN and WAN connectivity to both on premise and cloud infrastructure. Virtualisation: Proficiency with HyperVisors including VMware virtualisation technology and Microsoft Hyper-V, including setup, configuration, management, and performance tuning. Experience with vSphere, ESXi, Vmotion, DRS and Hyper-V including fail over clustering. Physical Hardware: Maintaining Server hardware including HPE DLxxx series and blade chassis management both physical and virtual via HPE OneView. Domain and Certificate Management: This includes DNS management for all external domains and internal domains. This will also include certificate management for both on premise (PKI) and external sites. Incident, Problem, and Change Management: Experience in managing IT incidents, problems, and changes within an ITIL framework. Ability to lead root cause analysis, develop corrective actions, and implement change control procedures. Multi-Technical Role Experience: Broad experience in various technical roles, demonstrating versatility and adaptability in different IT environments. Proven ability to integrate and harmonise diverse technical functions. Team Setup and Process Implementation: Experience in setting up new technical teams and implementing new ways of working.
