Description Expanding on successful delivery in AMP7, Costain is partnering with UK water companies to deliver strategic capital delivery programmes for their £108BN AMP8 investment cycle. As such, we have an opportunity for a Senior Planner to join our vibrant Engineering Design team who are based in Manchester, supporting secured frameworks with confirmed demand in Northumbrian Water, Thames Water, Severn Trent Water, United Utilities and Southern Water frameworks. This role sits within the growing Costain Engineering Limited function which offers a multi-disciplinary Engineering Design service across a range of sectors including Water, Energy & Transportation. The role is offered as Home Based with occasional travel required for face to face collaboration meetings with clients anticipated twice per month. Office based working in our Manchester or London offices can be arranged if preferred. As our Senior Planning Engineer, you will be an integral part of a Costain team delivering projects, your duties will include: Utilising your knowledge and expertise in the Primavera P6 planning and Project Controls discipline you will be responsible for providing Project Control solutions and services to our clients. You will also be a key contributor to improving processes, procedures and tools utilised by the function. LI-MR1 Responsibilities Responsibilities Adherence to Health & Safety practices Adherence to the Costain Way and project specific procedures Collection of all data required to prepare Level 3 Programme Baselines Raising of activities and coding structure in the propriety software Primavera P6 (including the importance of correct WBS awareness & alignment) Co-ordination of logical links between engineering, procurement and construction Calculation of activity durations from estimates and critical path identification Submission and formal approval of Baselines Exchange of electronic planning data with departments and clients Liaison with the procurement department and suppliers regarding equipment required on site dates Liaison with site planners and subcontractors for site execution timings Level 3 & 4 updating from: engineering, procurement & site planner feedback Scheduling of Programme activities on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly basis Input/production and issue of weekly updated 6 week look-aheads Introduction and analysis of approved changes into the Programme Programme Risk Analysis and What-If scenario exercises Production of Ad-Hoc Programmes as required Analysis of schedule update data and communication of trends to relevant parties Production and distribution of reports & graphics, including EVM and forecasting Tracking of Key Dates and relevant KPI’s Attendance at relevant project, progress and planning meetings You will confidently interface with Costain and client planning resources Design/Engineering/Procurement/Construction Departments Estimating & Change Control Site Planner Suppliers and Subcontractors Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Essential Primavera (P6) trained and experienced in a similar role Experience in building cost and resource loaded plans Experience of Earned Value Analysis Experience / understanding in the interpretation of estimating, scheduling, programming and risk tools Knowledge of contracts, including NEC and Extension of Time calculations High level of numeracy and excellent analytical skills Excellent MS Office skills Desirable Relevant experience in Project Controls and/or Project Delivery, preferably in a highly regulated environment and ideally within the Water sector The confidence to manage teams and communicate at all levels, driving commitments and improvements to meet commercial and technical objectives and deadlines. Qualifications Essential HNC/HND, degree qualified or experience in a planning related discipline Desirable APM Project Management Qualification APMG International Project Planning and Control Practitioner or equivalent PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP)
