We are looking to appoint a full time Consultant in Stroke Medicine at UHS. You will work across all areas of the pathway, from hyper acute management for local stroke admissions, inpatient referrals and regional cases for mechanical thrombectomy and decompressive hemicraniectomy, to inpatient stroke care, including rehabilitation.
You will lead the multidisciplinary team which includes stroke advanced care practitioners, nursing staff, specialist physio, occupational and speech and language therapy, orthoptists and neuropsychology. There are daily TIA clinics which the consultant will run or supervise, and monthly stroke follow up clinics.
In addition, the department has a strong educational record of teaching undergraduate medical students from the University of Southampton with small tutorial groups, and bedside teaching as well as postgraduate training for resident doctors including weekly stroke journal club meetings and support in preparation for assessments such as the MRCP exam.
