We are seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Principal Accountant (Capital & Assets) to lead on all aspects of capital accounting for the Council. This is a pivotal role where you'll be responsible for producing, maintaining, monitoring, and closing all records related to capital budgets, expenditure, income, assets, and reserves.
You will act as the financial lead within the multi-disciplinary team managing the Council's asset portfolio and play a critical role in providing financial advice and support on our commercial activities and major projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead on capital accounting, including budgeting, monitoring, and reporting.
2. Provide high-level financial advice on the Council's Capital Investment Programme.
3. Support and advise project and commercial teams on financial viability and compliance.
4. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting related to capital and asset management.
5. Lead financial aspects of audits, risk assessments, and long-term asset planning.
6. Support the transition to a new operating model that emphasizes data and digital transformation.
We are looking for an accountant with knowledge of local government finance or similar complex environments:
* Capital accounting frameworks and asset management.
* Excellent technical skills with a strategic mindset.
* Experience working across teams, especially within multi-disciplinary and project-based settings.
* Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop others.
