Associate Director – Planning Location: Dorset (Flexible working arrangements) Contract: Full-time, Permanent The Role A highly regarded independent planning consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering successful development outcomes is seeking an Associate Director – Planning to join its leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced chartered planner to take on a senior role with influence across a varied range of project types and sectors. You will work with a supportive leadership team, advising clients, shaping strategy, and making a real impact on project delivery from early inception through to consent. Key Responsibilities Provide high-quality, commercially focused planning advice across residential, commercial, infrastructure, and other project types. Develop and maintain long-term client relationships and a deep understanding of client needs. Lead on planning strategy, technical submissions, applications, and appeals. Undertake due diligence, research, and analysis to support planning recommendations. Negotiate with planning authorities and stakeholders throughout the planning process. Prepare and present clear, high-quality written reports. Participate in community engagement when required. Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to more junior planners. About You Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) with substantive planning experience in either the private or public sectors. Strong technical planning expertise with the ability to apply knowledge across varied project types. Proven ability to build and grow client relationships and support business development. Excellent communication (written and verbal), negotiation, and report writing skills. Confident, proactive, and able to work on your own initiative within a collaborative team. At least 7 years post-qualification experience (flexible for exceptional candidates). Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
