Lead Product Manager roles don’t get much more exciting than this. Whether your strength lies in commercial strategy, pricing and data‑led decision‑making, or in bold, customer‑first innovation and storytelling, you’ll shape, build, and deliver product strategies that evolve with member needs, stand out in the market and feel fair, rewarding and brilliantly simple to use.
You’ll bring the curiosity and optimism to reimagine how things should work, paired with the drive to turn that vision into reality. You’ll think in horizons, balancing near‑term delivery with a clear view of where products like current accounts should be in one to five years. You’ll also be energised by ambiguity, motivated by shaping what comes next in a fast‑moving environment and confident influencing senior leaders, while thinking forwards and at pace.
Your strategic experience may come from product management, financial planning, consulting, or innovation, but what defines you is a track record of thought leadership and meaningful delivery. This is a rare opportunity to reshape one of our most important products at scale and with real purpose.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours.
At Nationwide, we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK‑wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job, you’ll spend at least two days per week, or if part‑time, you’ll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, Dunfermline, London, Northampton or Bournemouth office. While these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location, we would welcome your application, and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll lead the design and delivery of product strategies that balance commercial value, customer needs and real‑world feasibility. Moving at pace, you’ll turn ideas into clear, actionable plans grounded in data, insight, and structured thinking, partnering closely with Technology, Marketing, and Delivery teams to bring them to life.
Additionally, you’ll bring creative thinking, bold ideas, and sharp market awareness to anticipate customer needs and shape propositions that look ahead of the curve. You’ll set a clear product direction, stay ahead of emerging trends and behavioural shifts, and help us lead the market rather than follow it. You’ll guide ideation, concept development, and strategic storytelling that inspires alignment, while translating big ideas into commercially sound propositions through pricing, cost modelling, and thoughtful trade‑offs.
Furthermore, you’ll use data and insight to segment customers, size opportunities, and model performance from both a financial and experiential perspective. You’ll influence senior leaders with compelling, well‑designed presentations that turn complex information into a crisp executive narrative and drive engagement around key decisions and you’ll lead the end‑to‑end journey from concept to launch, working hand‑in‑hand with Finance, Risk, Digital, Operations, Tech, and Marketing to deliver strategies and propositions that make a meaningful impact.
About you
We’re looking for someone with a sharp strategic mindset, grounded in commercial rigour, innovation excellence or, ideally, a blend of both. At a minimum, you’ll bring the following:
* Strategic experience, whether from product management, financial planning, consulting or an innovation team, with a strong record of thought leadership and delivery
* Exceptional storytelling ability, translating ideas, insights and strategies into clear narratives and compelling slide decks that engage stakeholders at every level
* Solid commercial acumen, with experience modelling financial outcomes, understanding cost–value trade‑offs and shaping persuasive business cases
* Collaborative leadership, influencing across functions and uniting teams behind a shared vision
* Experience delivering propositions in a regulated, customer‑first environment, with an understanding of areas such as Consumer Duty, audit, risk, and governance
* Confidence engaging with senior leadership, shaping thinking at pace and driving momentum where it matters most
Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:
* Feel what customers feel – We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
* Say it straight – We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
* Push for better – We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
* Get it done – We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes
You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
