About The Role
We are looking for a motivated Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team based in Falkirk. This is a fantastic opportunity to launch your career in geotechnical and environmental site investigation, gaining hands‑on site experience from day one. Working primarily in the field, you will support experienced engineers across a variety of site investigation and geotechnical projects, developing your technical skills in a supportive, collaborative environment. You will be mentored and guided as you build towards professional accreditation.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the planning and implementation of geotechnical site investigations.
* Carry out on-site testing and data collection, including trial pitting and soil sampling.
* Assist in the preparation of factual and interpretive geotechnical reports.
* Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of soil and rock samples.
* Liaise with clients, subcontractors and site teams under the guidance of senior engineers.
* Represent Aitken Laboratories professionally on site and in client interactions.
* Observe all health, safety and environment rules and procedures at all times.
* Maintain accurate project records and follow company procedures and industry best practices.
Essential Requirements
* Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across Scotland and the North of England.
* Enthusiasm for fieldwork and a willingness to work primarily on site.
* Good communication and written skills, with the ability to engage professionally with clients and colleagues.
* Strong attention to detail and a methodical, organised approach to work.
* Self‑motivated with a willingness to learn and develop within a professional environment.
Desirable
* Some understanding of Eurocodes or British Standards relevant to geotechnical engineering.
* Any prior site experience (e.g. through placements, internships or vacation work).
* An interest in working towards professional chartership (e.g. through the Geological Society or ICE).
