Senior Project Mechanical Design Engineer – Data Centres / Building Services Birmingham / Hybrid Leading international engineering consultancy delivering hyperscale data centre projects £65,000 – £85,000 pension, flexible working, strong progression The Company This well-established engineering consultancy is recognised for delivering complex, high-value data centre and mission-critical projects across Ireland, the UK, and the wider EMEA region. With a strong reputation in the hyperscale sector, they partner with some of the world’s largest technology companies, providing innovative and technically robust building services design solutions. As part of their continued expansion, they are launching a new Birmingham office to complement their successful Dublin operation. This presents a unique opportunity to join at an early stage, influence growth, and play a key role in delivering cutting-edge data centre developments. The Role – Senior Project Mechanical Design Engineer This is a senior-level position within the mechanical design team, focused on leading the delivery of mechanical building services for large-scale data centre projects across EMEA. You will take ownership of multiple projects from concept through to completion, ensuring quality, programme, and budget targets are consistently achieved. Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, you will act as a key point of coordination, driving technical excellence while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the overall success of the design function. Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical design delivery across multiple data centre projects Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and design regulations Manage programme timelines and ensure key milestones are met Oversee and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams Maintain strong client relationships and represent the business in meetings Deliver high-quality HVAC, building services, and mechanical system designs Review and manage project documentation, reports, and specifications Control project scope in line with contract requirements Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers Monitor quality assurance and ensure all deliverables meet company standards Report project progress to senior management About You Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering Minimum 10 years’ experience in mechanical design, ideally within data centres or mission-critical environments Professionally qualified or working towards chartership Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems and building controls Experience in plumbing and drainage design is advantageous Proven ability to lead projects and manage competing priorities Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage clients and stakeholders Strong report writing skills and ability to simplify complex technical issues Leadership mindset with a focus on team development and delivery Organised, proactive, and driven to meet deadlines and quality standards What’s on Offer Salary: £65,000 – £85,000 (DOE) Benefits: Hybrid working and flexible hours 25 days annual leave Pension scheme Paid professional subscriptions Chartership support and structured career progression Ongoing training, mentoring, and further education support Expenses covered for work-related travel Active social and wellbeing programme Why Apply?
