Specialist Learning Support Clinical Manager

Location: Endeavour House, Russell Road, Ipswich, IP12BX – Hybrid working

Hours: 37 hours per week (flexible working options available)

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £48,163 - £58,850 per annum (pro rata for part time)


Job Description

At Suffolk County Council, every role is a chance to create positive change. As a Specialist Learning Support Clinical Manager, you will work with a highly experienced registered nurse (Paediatric or Adult) to support children and young people with complex medical needs in schools or occasionally at home.


Your Role And Responsibilities

* Oversee day‑to‑day management of the specialist learning support service including care coordinators
* Ensure all Specialist Learning Support Assistants are assigned to care coordinators for training, monitoring and supervision
* Delegate medical interventions to non‑clinical staff in accordance with NMC registration and CQC standards
* Maintain financial acumen by achieving best value and delivering the service to budget
* Work in partnership with colleagues in education, health and social care, attending meetings when necessary
* Communicate effectively with team, children, families and carers with sensitivity to cultures and contexts
* Incorporate the voices and experiences of children, young people and their families when developing service improvements
* Directly manage and support the professional development of a small team of Care Coordinators who line‑manage SpLSAs in various school settings
* Lead care coordinators to ensure skills and competencies align with service guidelines and assessment frameworks
* Ensure accurate and up to date care plans and risk assessments for all children and young people under the service
* Provide oversight and responsibility for performance and quality standards, setting clear vision and expectations
* Set the standard for recording and reporting and provide best practice examples
* Ensure all relevant policies and procedures are in place, reviewed and adhered to by all staff
* Commit to developing the team and promoting a culture of honesty and accountability
* Uphold statutory responsibilities, policies and service procedures, including confidentiality and equality standards at all times


What You Will Need

* Current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration
* A mentorship or teaching qualification
* Experience working with people with complex medical needs reliant on technology (eg tracheostomy, gastrostomy feeding, jejunostomy feeding, non‑invasive ventilation, oral suction, oxygen therapy)
* Experience managing or supervising people
* Comprehensive understanding of delivering clinical care under a CQC framework (desirable)


The Team

* Part of the wider Community Health Services with robust clinical governance
* Team overseen by a Clinical Manager who is a trained children’s nurse
* Two Clinical Care Coordinators (one full time, one part time)
* Twenty‑three Specialist Learning Support Assistants supporting children in school or at home
* Care coordinators spend time in schools and in office or from home weekly
