Job Title: Methods Engineer
Location: Belfast
Hours: 4-day week Monday-Thursday / 37 hours per week
As a trainee Methods Engineer for machine details, you will be a hands-on engineer and problem solver experienced in manufacturing low/medium volume, high-precision components.
You will:
* Provide engineering support detailing methods, tools, facilities, and resources to ensure cost-effective manufacturing, maximizing key resource utilization.
* Ensure optimal flow of materials, tools, and parts to minimize cycle and disruption times.
* Embed design and quality standards within processes through innovative machining methods, equipment, and tooling.
* Successfully complete the ‘First Article Plan’ to verify product conformance and achieve long-term process capability through appropriate tooling.
* Receive training on schedule and budget adherence for all work packages.
* Shadow senior engineers during project design phases within a multi-functional team to ensure new products meet Design for Manufacture and Assembly requirements, providing recommendations on design alternatives where appropriate.
* Implement and maintain the ‘First Article Plan’ for new product introductions.
* Liaise with customers on manufacturing issues, developing and implementing solutions to exceed expectations.
* Develop, implement, and maintain departmental instructions and procedures in conjunction with Industrial Process Engineering Management.
* Assist in vendor audits, assess manufacturing capabilities, and provide technical assistance to vendors. Recommend vendors for approval.
* Assist in creating procurement specifications, selecting, justifying, and commissioning new production equipment.
* Support the development and introduction of innovative manufacturing processes.
About the role:
* Learn and develop cost-effective manufacturing methods using expert knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, and materials.
* Learn Offline CNC Programming for 3, 4, and 5-axis machines (Turning, Milling, Wire Cutting, EDM).
* Provide technical support to NDT and Treatments areas (training provided).
* Support machine setters/operators ongoingly.
* Record and document current processes.
* Implement APQP principles.
* Investigate non-conformities and develop corrective actions.
* Support the Quality Engineering function.
Qualifications:
* Degree in an engineering discipline preferred; HND with relevant experience accepted.
Experience:
* Minimum 3 years relevant experience as a skilled CNC Machinist/Setter/Programmer.
The candidate should have knowledge of:
* Twin spindle lathes, multi-axis mills, 5-axis machine centers with live tooling.
* MasterCAM or equivalent software, including post processor development and NC simulation (Vericut).
* Engineering drawings and geometrical tolerancing (BS8888).
* Inspection equipment usage.
* ISO9001 environment and system procedures.
* Statistical Process Control methods.
* Design for Manufacture and Assembly.
* Problem-solving skills.
* Basic manufacturing process knowledge.
