The Centre Manager is a pivotal figure in driving the strategic, scientific, and operational success of Imperial’s British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence (CRE). This role sits at the heart of the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) and Imperial’s cardiovascular research community, working closely with the Faculty of Medicine and partner faculties. You will oversee the smooth day-to-day operations of the Centre while playing a key role in advancing its mission: to deepen our understanding of cardiovascular disease heterogeneity and enable breakthroughs in diagnostics, prevention, and treatment
1. Partner with academic leadership to implement the Centre’s strategic objectives and drive impactful, translational research, ensuring alignment with BHF and Imperial priorities.
2. Oversee administration, finance, and reporting, liaising with NHLI and institutional partners to ensure compliance with Imperial and BHF requirements.
3. Coordinate internal and external communications, including high-profile events (Annual Symposium, workshops, and interdisciplinary seminars) and support funding initiatives and strategic planning.
4. A PhD in a STEM discipline, with a strong track record of problem-solving and independent working.
5. Highly self-motivated, proactive, and resourceful, with proven ability to anticipate challenges, manage competing priorities, and deliver results to deadlines.
6. Strong financial management and analytical skills to support budgeting, forecasting, and evidence-based strategic decisions.
7. Experience (or willingness to develop expertise) in research administration, complex project management, and working at a strategic level with academic research collaborations, research funders, and/or industry partners.
8. Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing, and negotiation skills, with the tact and diplomacy to manage relationships across a large, multi-disciplinary research network.
9. A high level of organisation, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
10. Ability to work independently while coordinating multiple stakeholders; flexible and adaptable in a changing environment.
11. A genuine interest in enabling cutting-edge research and translating discoveries for patient benefit.
