The working window for this role is 4 pm to 2 am, rotating between 4‑12 pm and 6‑2 am shifts, with a 15 % shift allowance. During the initial training period (≈6 months) you will work 12 pm‑8 pm. In this role you will perform and guide microbiological analysis to help provide reliably safe, clean and wholesome water to our customers. Our microbiology team detects faecal indicator bacterial species and protozoa in our water supply. The laboratory receives samples daily throughout the year, requiring high quality, adaptability and focus. You will analyse and interpret data, update systems and maintain equipment, ensuring accuracy in line with required standards and expected timeframes. Our laboratories are market‑leading, using cutting‑edge facilities and methods with encouragement to share ideas and contribute to continuous improvement. We are a commercially focused laboratory, providing services to private‑sector customers, including other water companies. Expect a fast‑paced, busy and friendly work environment.
Responsibilities
 * Operate instrumentation and perform analysis in line with the Laboratory Management System.
 * Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
 * Analyse and interpret data, completing all laboratory paperwork.
 * Document information by maintaining daily logs and equipment records.
 * Enter data accurately into the Laboratory Information Management System within set timeframes.
 * Ensure sample stability and turnaround for the given analysis is met.
 * Prepare standards, reagents and Quality Control samples in accordance with internal procedures.
 * Work towards being a competent person under Regulation 16(2)(d)(i) of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016 and pursue Continuous Professional Development.
Qualifications
 * Knowledge of good laboratory practice.
 * Relevant academic qualification or scientific subject at NVQ level 3 equivalent or above.
 * Willing to work towards full membership of a professional body.
 * Excellent numeracy, literacy, computer literacy and laboratory skills.
Bonus: Previous experience of good laboratory practice.

Compensation
£27,002 per annum.
