About the role & team
The Hunterston Engineering Manager will work with the engineering contractor (Kent - Woking) to ensure compliance with HVP standards and timely delivery of the engineering documents. The candidate will also manage one or more of the equipment packages from design through procurement and manufacturing to delivery to site.
The candidate will have a small team of direct reports responsible for review and approval of the contractor’s design, providing input/feedback to ensure compliance with HVP requirements. This team will deliver various equipment packages through design, manufacture and delivery to site, driving for an optimised design considering construction budget and efficient build.
Job Purpose / Requirements
* Manages and leads a small team of multi-discipline engineers to work collaboratively with the engineering contractor and coordinate production of engineering deliverables in accordance with the project plan.
* Manages interfaces on a project including multiple disciplines and engineering centres.
* Capable of performing duties with no direct supervision and within agreed schedules and budgets.
* Has appreciation of multi-discipline engineering design activities. Manages all disciplines to achieve design consistency.
* Supports the Project Management Team in planning and identifying technical issues that could limit progress or impact project budgets. Interfaces with the client.
* Provides all necessary input and support to project progress and reporting.
Key Activities
* Technically responsible for all engineering work and allocating, supervising, and directing preparation of project deliverables. Delegates supervision to Project Engineers as appropriate.
* Formulates resolutions to technically challenging and high-profile issues with support from consultants and discipline engineers, and communicates with clients and senior management.
* Monitors engineering progress, addresses shortfalls, develops recovery plans, and ensures implementation. Provides feedback to Project Manager and engineering discipline supervisors.
* Attends project review meetings and ensures associated reports are compiled and distributed.
* Reviews ITB documents, prepares/reviews man-hour estimates, and provides input to the project execution plan.
* Identifies scope of work and supervises preparation of the Technical Document Register (TDR); plans all engineering activities and manpower resources.
* Provides necessary project controls and reporting to Project Management.
* Supports procurement for long lead items: approves technical requisitions, reviews vendor documentation, and evaluates technical bids.
* Ensures compatibility with HVP specifications and recommends cost-effective improvements to equipment selection.
* Consults with QA on quality issues to ensure compliance with project quality plan and design integrity processes.
* Coordinates internal and third‑party audit requests and facilitates audit procedures of engineering systems.
* Participates in multi-discipline engineering design reviews and approves actions to close out.
* Coordinates preparation and presentation of final documentation for acceptance certificates and participates in formal project reviews.
* Participates in employee performance evaluations and identifies training requirements.
* Performs related duties as instructed by Direct Supervisor.
