Main duties of the job
* Manage invoices, payments, and financial queries.
* Maintain Xero records and reconcile accounts.
* Oversee payroll and pensions administration.
* Submit ARRS and other NHS claims.
* Prepare financial reports for GP Partners, support budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow optimisation.
* Lead year‑end financial preparation and liaison with the accountant.

Job responsibilities
We are seeking a proactive and organised Finance Manager to play a key role in the smooth and sustainable running of our NHS GP practice. The postholder will be responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day financial operations, including budgeting, income reconciliation, payroll oversight, NHS claims and financial reporting. Working closely with the Partners, Practice Manager and wider leadership team, you will support strategic decision‑making by providing clear financial insight, ensure compliance with NHS and statutory requirements, liaise with external accountants and the ICB, and help develop robust systems and controls. This varied and influential role is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the confidence to work both independently and collaboratively within a busy primary‑care environment.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential – High level numeracy skills (GCSE/NVQ minimum, A level or higher preferred).
* Desirable – Accountancy/Finance qualifications.
Experience
* Essential – Demonstrable experience in a finance or senior administrative role, preferably within NHS, primary care or public sector, with strong budgeting, financial reporting and income reconciliation skills. Highly organised, numerate and analytical, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to present financial information clearly to both clinical and non‑clinical colleagues. Strong communication, confidence working with senior stakeholders, and ability to manage multiple priorities independently. Comfortable within regulatory frameworks, committed to confidentiality and good governance, and able to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while taking ownership and initiative in a fast‑paced environment.
* Desirable – Experience working in primary care; familiarity with GP primary‑care financial accounting/processes; familiarity with cash‑flow forecasting/budgeting; familiarity in financial reporting.
