Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist – Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist within the field of Haemoglobinopathies. This is a fixed‐term contract to cover maternity leave. The post holder will work as part of a comprehensive multidisciplinary team within Homerton NHS, covering community and acute settings, including the Royal London Hospital and home visits to meet service need and patient demands.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist nursing care, education and support for individuals with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.
* Work with the Nurse Consultant, Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia team and wider multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care to paediatric patients.
* Coordinate and develop clinical practice in the community, including paediatric review clinics.
* Implement care plans and follow up on newborn screening results.
* Engage with patients and families on a regular basis, planning, initiating and implementing care as required.
* Communicate effectively within the team and liaise with other agencies such as social care, community nursing teams and safeguarding.
* Provide high-quality information education on haemoglobinopathies to schools, colleges and other services.
* Perform cannulation and venepuncture in accordance with local policy.
* Develop and sustain effective relationships with public health teams and General Practitioners.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and evidence of continuing professional development.
* Recognised qualification in Teaching & Assessment.
* Significant experience working with haemoglobinopathies and capability to plan and implement care for children with sickle cell and thalassaemia disorders.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate at all levels.
* Good team player and proficient in IT applications such as Word and Excel.
* Knowledge of EPR & RIO systems is desirable.

* Salary: £46,419 to £55,046 a year pro rata p.a. incl.
