Principal / Lead Electrical Engineer- Long Term Contract- Outside of Scope of IR35- Hybrid
Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal/Lead Electrical Engineer to join one of the UK's leading construction and engineering solutions company on a long term contract basis.
This role will involve providing technical leadership and expertise in electrical engineering for various projects within the Oil & Gas, Nuclear, and Water sectors. The successful candidate will be client-facing and responsible for delivering high-quality electrical engineering solutions in accordance with industry standards and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Principal Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of projects by performing the following tasks:
* Provide technical input for projects and proposals, including the preparation, checking, and approval of engineering documentation.
* Allocate work and ensure delivery against plan, prioritizing tasks to meet project timelines and client expectations.
* Deliver high-quality electrical engineering tasks within schedule, budget, and client satisfaction.
* Ensure compliance with applicable national and international codes of practice, legislation, and company/client standards and procedures.
* Prepare equipment and materials requisitions for various electrical components, including HV and LV switchboards, transformers, UPS systems, VFDs, motors, etc.
* Prepare installation scopes of work and review supplier quotations, providing technical bid assessments.
Competencies Required:
The ideal candidate will possess competence in some or all of the following areas:
* HV system design (33kV and below)
* HV protection systems, including protection schematics, grading studies, and protection settings schedules
* Detailed design of plants with large electrical networks
* Earthing calculations and system design
* Power system analysis, including fault level calculations and load flows
* Specifying electrical equipment for hazardous areas
* Over 15 years of experience in electrical design and installation requirements.
* Significant experience leading projects in the Oil & Gas, Nuclear, and/or Water sectors.
* Extensive knowledge of UK legislation and standards.
* Experience in CE marking of plant and equipment, including Atex, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive, and EMC Compliance.
* Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management, and HSE requirements.
Qualifications:
* Degree in relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electronic / Electrical / Control Engineering). Apprenticeships may be considered.
* Chartered or Incorporated engineer status with a relevant professional body or evidence of being close to gaining these professional titles.
