Be among the first 25 applicants. This Senior Electrical Engineer role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team.
Job Overview
Working within our Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate you will influence and shape how we deliver our service into the future. As part of our Technical Authority, you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet our objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and meet our commitments to net zero carbon.
You will be part of a team that manages, develops and maintains our electrical engineering standards, including our electrical safety rules, for our electrical systems and equipment – HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defences and monitoring sites.
You will help develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment, and you may be required to hold a national incident response role.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership and support for electrical engineering standards and best practice.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for employees working on electrical systems.
* Lead risk assessment, method statement and safety guidance for high‑ and low‑voltage installations.
* Support incident response and national incident management as required.
* Contribute to the development of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
Qualifications
* Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Strong knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Experience with testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Knowledge of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability systems.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
