Assistant Healthcare Support Worker (Progression Scheme) - Emergency Department

At Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, our Emergency Department is at the heart of urgent care in Swindon and the surrounding region. We are looking for motivated individuals to join our ambitious organisation as a Healthcare Support Worker in our dynamic and supportive ED team, where every day brings new challenges and every action makes a difference.

This role is part of a progression scheme where you will undertake the Care Certificate, which takes approximately 6 months to complete, during which your pay band will increase.

You will be responsible for delivering individual patient care and supporting team leaders and senior staff. You should be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to improving patient experience and nursing care. This environment will challenge your organisational skills and enhance your knowledge across various specialties.

This role is available on a full-time or part-time basis, offering flexibility to balance your career and lifestyle.

* You will be expected to work a full spectrum of shifts, including long days, nights, and twilight hours.
* Each shift lasts 11 hours and 45 minutes; we do not operate short shifts.
* Flexibility and commitment to all shift types are essential.

We offer both permanent and fixed-term contracts, aligned with your long-term career goals.

Key duties include:

* Caring and communication with kindness and compassion
* Personal care, including catheter care and incontinence management
* Nutrition and hydration support
* Pressure area care
* Collecting specimens (routine bodily fluids)
* Moving and handling
* Documentation, including food & fluid charts and outcome sheets
* Environmental maintenance
* Performing care in line with risk assessments and care plans
* Maintaining clinical room supplies
* Assisting with medical notes and clinic preparations
* Escorting patients to other departments (excluding theatre)
* Initiating emergency procedures
* Promoting person-centered care and supporting patient wellbeing
