Water Hygiene Supervisor
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Water Hygiene Supervisor to lead and support a team of engineers delivering Legionella control, monitoring, and remedial services across a varied client base.
This role is key to ensuring full compliance with ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS 8580-1:2019, while maintaining high service standards across commercial, industrial, and residential contracts. You will combine hands-on technical expertise with team leadership, playing a pivotal role in driving performance, quality, and client satisfaction.
The Role
As a Water Hygiene Supervisor, you will oversee day-to-day operations of field-based engineers, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with compliance requirements.
You will be responsible for supervising service delivery, supporting engineers on-site, managing workloads, and acting as a key point of contact for clients. This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring both technical knowledge and the ability to manage and develop a team.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
* Supervise and support a team of Water Hygiene Engineers across multiple sites
* Allocate workloads, manage schedules, and ensure efficient service delivery
* Provide on-site support, coaching, and technical guidance to engineers
* Assist with onboarding and training of new staff, ensuring competency standards are met
* Monitor performance and maintain high standards of work quality and compliance
Legionella Control & Compliance
* Oversee Legionella control regimes, ensuring works are completed in line with ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS 8580-1:2019
* Conduct site audits, inspections, and quality checks on completed works
* Support complex or high-risk sites, providing technical expertise where required
* Ensure all compliance documentation is accurate, complete, and audit-ready
Water Hygiene Services Oversight
* Supervise delivery of services including tank cleaning, disinfection, chlorination, and TMV servicing
* Ensure remedial works and maintenance activities are completed to a high standard
* Support engineers with technical issues relating to system performance and compliance
Client Liaison & Account Support
* Act as a key point of contact for clients, maintaining strong working relationships
* Provide technical advice, recommendations, and compliance updates
* Attend client meetings where required, supporting contract delivery and performance reviews
* Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery
Health & Safety
* Promote and enforce all health & safety procedures and safe systems of work
* Ensure all team members adhere to PPE requirements and site safety standards
* Identify, report, and manage risks across sites
Requirements
Essential
Proven experience within water hygiene, Legionella control, or a related field
Previous experience in a supervisory or senior/lead engineer role
Strong knowledge of ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS 8580-1:2019
Ability to manage teams and coordinate workloads effectively
Full UK driving licence
Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills
High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Desirable
City & Guilds or equivalent in Legionella Risk Assessment
Plumbing background or relevant technical qualifications
Experience managing contracts or client accounts
Knowledge of water treatment processes (e.g. closed systems, dosing)
Understanding of fire safety-related water systems
