We are looking for an experienced Head of Business Development and Marketing Strategy to grow our business development function, and lead on marketing and comms strategies for the firm. The role supports all service, sector and office teams across the firm and will work hand-in-hand with the marketing operations leads.
You will be a person that can ‘wear many hats’ and use your business development skill set, various perspectives and experiences to deliver the wide-ranging aspects of the role – one minute you will be giving a ‘helicopter view’ and the next, advising on tactical execution. You need to be able to shift from one to the other seamlessly and be equally comfortable in either situation. You will have experience of doing this in a similarly complex organisation.

It’s likely you’ll have worked in professional services before, but this isn’t essential if you’re culturally a good fit and you are a quick learner, able to absorb, retain and learn from multiple sources of information and those around you, really quickly.
You’ll be able to synthesise complex information and communicate clearly. You will use your influencing and negotiation skills to get internal buy-in for projects and deadlines. It’s a given that you’ll be able to devise BD and marketing objectives, strategic approaches and tactical delivery plans. You’ll have ideas and be creative in your approach and be able to draw on your professional network for inspiration.
This role involves some direct line management of the BD team, but also cross-functional working with the Marketing team.
The job
* Lead on devising and delivering BD strategies and initiatives that generate fees and help grow the firm. The BD team’s work includes writing proposals, pitches and bids, generating targeted opportunities to win new work, client maximisation and market development
* Supporting the Marketing team to devise marketing strategies that promote the firm's services, raise profile and increase brand awareness
* Work with the Marketing operational leads to ensure execution of agreed strategic plans
* Provide guidance, mentorship, and direction to direct reports
* Identify trends, competitive landscapes, and opportunities, providing insights to drive strategic decision-making
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of BD and Marketing initiatives using metrics and analytics, making data-driven adjustments as necessary to optimise performance and ROI
* Work with external partners, e.g. freelance specialists, briefing and managing them to deliver as an extension of the internal team.
Experience and qualifications
* Marketing degree/ postgraduate marketing qualification following a business or communications degree
* Evidence of business development/ marketing/ business/ management CPD
* Worked at this level in a similar sized or equally complex organisation
* 15 years’ marketing experience.
