Role: Lead AI Engineer
Location: West London (W8) - hybrid 2 days p/w
Salary: £100,000 to £200,000

A leading media group is seeking Lead AI Engineer to join their newly formed Innovation Team, focused on delivering cutting-edge AI solutions across editorial, product, tech, and commercial functions.
This is a unique opportunity to drive tangible impact across one of the most recognised news brands in the country, working on generative AI applications, AI agent development, and predictive modelling in a fast-moving, highly collaborative environment.
You will technically lead a team of 4 AI Engineers, working closely with the head of innovation, owning end-to-end of solutions through stakeholder management (gathering requirements from internal teams), to POCs and implementing solutions into production using the best tools for the job.
You will also be responsible for the technical roadmap within AI e.g. what to do next, how to keep evolving, keeping the team on track, always looking to innovate etc.
The Role
You will:
Define AI roadmap
Technically lead a team of 4 AI Engineers
Design, prototype, and deploy AI-driven tools to enhance editorial workflows, commercial operations, and digital products
Implement prompt engineering and AI agent solutions to solve real-world problems (e.g. content summarisation, headline generation)
Collaborate across departments to integrate AI solutions seamlessly
Contribute to a test-and-learn culture, building POCs with support from wider tech and product teams
Play a key role in training stakeholders on how to use new GenAI tools once tested and validated
Consult and translate tech to non-tech teams, and can handle ambiguity
Some recent projects: building recommender systems, forecasting models for article prioritisation
About You...
Experience in AI/ML, LLMs, and NLP
Proficiency with Python, AI frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face), and cloud services (preferably GCP or Azure)
Hands-on experience with prompt engineering and/or AI agents (professional or personal projects welcome)
Comfortable working across mixed teams and adapting to various environments
Strong communication skills/stakeholder management and a passion for experimentation, innovation, and driving change
Ability to lead technically
