Join to apply for the Senior AIT Lead Engineer role at Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL).
For all phases of planning, control and execution of Payload or Spacecraft level AIT & EVT activities during the mission ground test phase.
Responsibilities
* Work as a key member of the Core Project team, with the Project manager, AIT Manager and Systems Engineer to deliver fully tested payload and spacecraft.
* Manage test operators and responsible engineers activities on the payload or spacecraft in line with system level schedules and requirements, deputising these roles when required.
* Provide documentation and present at design, test and project reviews for both internal and external audiences.
* Support upcoming bids and proposals.
* Facilitate and schedule core AIT support equipment (Electrical Ground Support Equipment, Mechanical Ground Support Equipment, test equipment definition, and harness definition).
* Define ground test cables; facilitate and schedule all AIT and EVT phase activities.
* Define and implement Unit Integration and Test, AIT System Integration and Test, EVT test campaigns and logistics.
* Implement test plans flowing down from system level requirements; develop unit, system and subsystem level integration & testing plans; create test procedures traceable to system requirements.
* Oversee and participate in system level testing; act as an expert spacecraft system operator.
* Ensure SSTL engineering policies and practices are applied on the project; maintain tidiness and safe working practices in the AIT clean room.
* Liaise with mission team and external customers; support ground segment commissioning and LEOP activities; support training programmes for both internal and customer engineers.
Qualifications
Qualifications
* Degree or HND/HNC in engineering or science discipline.
* EU-based personal Security clearance (held in the last 5 years) and citizenship of an EU member state or Schengen area country.
Experience
* Experience with spaceflight hardware, including integrated system testing at spacecraft level.
* Detailed test planning and scheduling; experience with verification/validation of requirements.
* Experience managing test teams in dynamic environments; familiarity with scripting and EGSE systems is advantageous.
* Strong electrical/electronics background and knowledge of materials used in spaceflight environments.
* Hands-on experience with electronic test equipment usage including RF/communications.

* Proactive problem solver with ability to chase issues to conclusion; practical hands-on abilities for flight build and ground/development testing.
* Ability to deliver solutions under pressure and tight timescales; capable of managing large work packages and resourcing.
* Good teamwork and ability to interface with colleagues at all levels; strong attention to detail and ability to ensure subsystems function as designed.
* Strong judgment to work independently in ambiguous situations; proven technical writing and presentation skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interface with customers and technical representatives.
* Flexible, pragmatic attitude to work, planning and interactions; willing to work irregular hours, weekends and shifts.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Microsoft Project; willingness to travel overseas to support testing at customer premises and facilities worldwide.
* Full, clean driving licence preferred; able to demonstrate company mindsets: accountability, one team, customers and projects rule and audacity.
