Birmingham City Council is one of the UK’s largest local authorities,mitted to protecting consumers and supporting fair trading across the city. Based at the Ashted Lock office (B7), with parking available and access to pool cars, you’ll be joining a team that plays a vital role in upholding trading standards and public safety.
Your new role
As a Trading Standards Enforcement Officer, you’ll be investigating businesses that fail toply with relevant laws, conducting inspections to ensurepliance with regulations around product safety, pricing, weights and measures, and age-restricted sales. You’ll be responsible for bagging and booking evidence, collating materials for prosecution, and providing guidance to businesses to help them meet legal standards. You may also work on cases involving food hygiene and counterfeit goods. This is a temporary contract until May 2026, with the potential for extension. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, mainly 9am–5pm, with occasional out-of-hours work. An in-person interview and enhanced DBS check are required.
What you'll need to succeed
We’re looking for someone with strong investigative and analytical skills, a solid understanding of consumer law and both criminal and civil procedures, and the ability to manageplex caseloads independently. Excellentmunication skills are essential for engaging with the public, businesses, and legal professionals. Experience in enforcement or a background in policing is highly desirable.
