We have an opportunity for a training post in PET CT and Oncological Imaging at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based on a 12‑month fixed term contract.
Main duties of the job
- Receive training in PET CT and other aspects of oncological cross‑sectional imaging by expert Consultant Radiologists and participate in research and teaching.
- Work across all Trust sites: Royal Preston Hospital, Chorley, South Ribble District General Hospital and the new CDC Health Port, based in Preston.
- Play a full part in departmental audit and clinical governance programmes.
- Develop specialist areas of interest and take on the role of educational supervisor for doctors in training attached to the department.
- Be resident within 30 minutes travel time to Royal Preston Hospital.
Organization and facilities
The Radiology service is managed within the Clinical Directorate structure, comprising Radiology, Neuroradiology, Ultrasound, Vascular (general) Interventional Radiology, Chest Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, including SPECT scanning and Oncological Radiology. The diagnostic department is well equipped, with a range of modern imaging equipment across two sites. There are four multislice CT scanners, a modern bi‑planar neuro‑interventional suite and two interventional cardiology suites, three 1.5T MRI scanners and a specialised extremity MRI scanner, plus a well‑developed nuclear medicine department with two gamma cameras. PET‑CT is provided on site via a partnership with Alliance Medical Ltd.

Health
- Meets professional health requirements in line with GMC Standards / Good Medical Practice.
Qualifications
- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice in UK.
- MBBS or equivalent.
- FRCR or equivalent.
- CCST in Radiology or eligible registration equivalents.
Experience and Skills
- Wide experience in General Radiology including cross‑sectional imaging.
- Interest in PET‑CT and new developments in hybrid imaging.
- Commitment to working as part of a clinical team.
- Subspecialty experience in Oncology.
- Teaching skills for both medical and paramedical disciplines.
- US and fluoroscopic non‑vascular interventional experience.
Management
- Evidence of commitment to improving clinical practice.
- Ability to supervise and direct junior medical staff and other colleagues.
- Evidence of commitment to audit.
Personal
- Proven effective communication skills (with examples).
- Good organisational skills (with examples).
- Works well within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Resident within 30 minutes travel time to Chorley/Preston.
- Car owner/Driver.
