As Service Manager, you will support the leadership of the Acute Medicine Department with responsibility and accountabilty for the effective management, organisation and delivery of the service.

Main duties of the job
The primary duties of the post are to take operational responsibility of service delivery across the speciality/portfolio area. Working closely with the Directorate Manager, Specialty Manager and Clinical Director and supporting services to identify and deliver sustainable solutions in which to deliver tier one access targets, providing high quality, cost effective and efficient planned care services. Identifying areas of opportunity for service improvement and development.
The Service Manager will be expected to provide strong visible leadership within the service as part of the multidisciplinary team to drive through the delivery of ambitious targets to continually improve performance within the service area.
The post holder will provide operational expertise and management support to all members of the team, ensuring the provision of an efficient and sustainable secretarial and administration workforce that is aligned to the needs of the Service and will be expected to coach, provide direction and be clear about what is expected to be successful in achieving the UHB's vision.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Medicine Clinical Board
Medicine see and treat over 140,000 people through our emergency pathways into secondary care with a focus on supporting them to get home at the earliest opportunity.
We are predominantly known for emergency and acute work but we also deliver a broad range of other services within the Board. They include respiratory, gerontology, diabetes, gastroenterology, dermatology, cancer and general medicine operating across the University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough.
We have a dedicated, skilled workforce of Medical, Clinical, Nursing, Therapy, Professional and Administrative staff of approximately 2000 people working in Medicine to deliver care to the population we serve.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Degree plus Postgraduate Diploma level education or equivalent management qualifications or equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience.
* Evidence of continued learning/personal development in relevant field.
* Degree or professional equivalent
* Previous experience of taking forward IT related projects
Experience
* Experience of leading a team and managing staff.
* Experience of change management and a proven track record in service improvement.
* Experience in consultation and negotiation.
* Experience in the management of IT projects
* Experience in using the MD-office suite of software, particularly Word, Excel and MS-Project.
* Experience/knowledge of working within the NHS or related organisation in a management role.
* Experienced in the management of Benefits Realisation to maximise investment in IM&T

* Production of the appropriate literature required supporting a large IM&T Project using known methodologies
* Welsh Language Skills 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.

* Comprehensive knowledge of NHS IT systems.
* Extensive knowledge of IT systems including PMS, BIS and Clinical Portal
