Overview
Role: Regulatory and Professional Discipline Solicitor (1 - 3 years' PQE)
The Healthcare Regulatory and Professional Discipline Team acts for medical defence organisations and private clients in respect of regulatory, disciplinary, coronial and criminal matters. The team has nationwide reach and represents professionals across the country; it is based in our Guildford office alongside the wider Healthcare Department. The team is ranked in The Legal 500.
We are looking for a fee earner (1 - 3 years' PQE) to join the team. The work will involve advising lay and institutional clients on GMC/GDC investigations, inquests, police investigations and prosecutions (subject to experience) and Health Board/Trust disciplinary matters. We may also represent other healthcare professionals before their regulatory bodies, such as the NMC and HCPC.
The successful candidate will have previous experience in some or all of these areas, and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work.
Responsibilities
* Manage own caseload with supervision
* Ensure case management records are maintained
* Assist other lawyers in the team with their work, including supporting senior fee earners where necessary
* Be flexible to assist with cases and instructions outside of normal working hours when required
* Meet chargeable hours targets
* Assist with the training and development of junior members of the team and training sessions provided to our institutional clients
About You
* You will be a qualified solicitor, 1 - 3 years' PQE (relevant additional experience will also be considered), with some experience in professional regulation
* Knowledge of healthcare regulation processes (ideally GMC and GDC proceedings)
* Advocacy experience in Pre-Inquest Hearings, Inquests, Interim Orders Hearings and police interviews (preferred but not essential)
* A willingness to extend your existing skills and develop expertise in this area of law
* Conscientious, self-motivated, hardworking, responsive, with critical thinking abilities
* Excellent communication, organisation and analytical skills
* Ability to work to strict deadlines and timetables, whilst maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy
* Good attention to detail
* Good IT skills
* Ability to work as part of a team while also possessing initiative and a “can-do” attitude
