Chief Cardiac Physiologist (EP)

We are seeking a suitably qualified Chief Cardiac Physiologist to join our team at Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust. We are a very active department providing a wide range of investigations and are looking to expand our team of multi-skilled cardiac physiologists.

The successful applicant will be influential in the direction of the department and development of the EP services that we provide; we are the leading centre in Surrey for Electrophysiology studies and ablation. The applicant will be participating in 24/7 PPCI service.

Applicants should have extensive experience in invasive and non-invasive cardiology, and be specialised in Electrophysiology & Cardiac Rhythm Management. The post holder will still benefit from the opportunity to rotate through all aspects of the department as EP lists run two to three days each week.

The department offers a wide range of invasive and non-invasive investigations, including echocardiography, physiologist-led exercise testing, 24 hour ECG and BP monitoring and event recording. We have a busy Pacemaker/ICD implant and follow-up service; we are the leading implant centre in Surrey for ICDs and CRTs with an extensive remotely‑monitored patient population.

Main duties of the job

* Provide clinical and administrative support in the EP service, working alongside other physiologist leads to ensure delivery of a quality clinical service.
* Undertake, supervise, and teach at a high level with simple and complex Pacing/ICD/CRT implants and Electrophysiology Studies/RF Ablation, and support PCI and diagnostic angiography.
* Maintain a progressive learning environment within invasive cardiology ensuring the development of allo.
* Work within a 24/7 PPCI service and work weekends on a rotational basis on‑call.

Job responsibilities

* Clinical Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain standards of technical competency in EP and in the provision of all technical cardiac procedures (invasive and non‑invasive). Respond promptly and professionally to emergency situations, identifying equipment faults and resolving them; provide first‑line interpretation and full technical reports of tests; remain up to date with latest trends in clinical physiology, translating into practice; assist with research studies as required; ensure all patients receive appropriate and individualised care; participate in the 24/7 on‑call PPCI service.
* Managerial Responsibilities: Acquire day‑to‑day running of the EP service including stock management, ordering, and economic use of supplies; ensure data entered on the invasive database is timely and accurate; deputise for the Operations Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist; manage junior cardiac physiology personnel; assist with organisation and performance of the invasive service; work with senior staff to achieve government targets; develop protocols, guidelines, and policies; implement local policies and guidelines and ensure adherence.
* Personnel Responsibilities: Conduct yourself professionally, act as a role model to junior staff, undertake service provision and training in other areas as needed, supervise training and appraisal of staff, demonstrate leadership and maintain good morale and open communication, contribute to incident and accident reporting.
* Educational Responsibilities: Commit to personal professional development; identify training needs with senior staff; maintain professional accreditation; ensure mandatory training is up to date; support a rigorous training programme and progressive learning environment for all staff.
* Administrative Responsibilities: Register patient attendances; book appointments; use Cerner Millenium and Solus for patient progression and resource management; order portering; maintain cleanliness; cost‑effective use of equipment; manage phone communications; rebook missed appointments; amend bookings as necessary; support departmental duties as delegated.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology or Equivalent
* Intermediate Life Support Skills
* IBHRE in EP or BHRS or Equivalent
* BHRS or IBHRE in Devices
* RCCP registration or equivalent


Experience and Knowledge

* Extensive experience with RF and cryo‑ablation therapy
* Extensive experience in physiological investigations including cover for 24/7 PPCI service
* Extensive knowledge of invasive cardiology with competency in PCI, simple and complex device implants
* Demonstrate competency in supporting ILR/pacemaker/ICD and CRT implantation and follow up, and invasive techniques
* Demonstrate competency to lead in ECG, ETT, Ambulatory Monitoring, pacing and complex device follow‑up
* Experience with 3D mapping system
* Staff management
* Experience of stock control


Other requirements

* Adaptable and flexible
* Ability to wear lead apron
* Ability to work cross‑site
* Ability to work extended working hours
