Senior Teaching Fellow - Trauma and Orthopaedics

The post is for a trainee who is post MRCS and aims to pursue a career in Trauma & Orthopaedics. It offers an opportunity to develop an interest in teaching whilst broadening clinical and research experience.
Main duties of the job
The department provides undergraduate teaching to medical students from Newcastle University in both Year 3 and Year 5 as part of their hospital placements. Teaching is provided in a variety of clinical settings and the post holder would be expected to provide teaching to individuals, small groups and more formal teaching sessions;and will be trained as a simulation training faculty member whilst in post. The post holder would be expected to participate in student induction sessions and assessment sessions along with the Consultants. A variety of clinical sessions are provided within the job plan and it is expected that these will provide the post holder with valuable clinical experience as well as providing an opportunity to deliver clinical teaching.

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will play a central role in the coordination, organisation and delivery of the undergraduate clinical teaching program for 3 sessions per week (annual average) to students fromUniversity of Newcastle. A close working relationship with theUndergraduate Medical Education Coordinator ensures a well-structured teaching experience. The candidate will also coordinate the Departments weekly teaching.The remaining 7 sessions will consist of clinical duties, research and professional development. The on-call commitment is second on call in a 1:9 rota. The main clinical duties will be across both emergency and elective orthopaedic care. Opportunities for clinical research are available and can be tailored to individual requirements.
