We are looking for a full time permanent Specialist Orthoptist with experience, and a special interest in stroke services.
Main duties of the job
This post involves the assessment, diagnosis and management of a varied caseload of Orthoptic patients providing an interesting mix of adult and paediatric patients including patients from the Emergency Eye clinic, Maxillofacial team, Neurology, Stroke team and Paediatrics. You will provide general Orthoptic services as well as provide support to the stroke ward. You will also work autonomously within a dedicated stroke rehab clinic. This will require close relationships with our dedicated ECLO and rehabilitation community teams.
About us
The department at Bolton has 10 consultants including a specialist consultant in strabismus. We have our own theatres and perform squint surgeries on site including adjustable suture surgery.
We work closely with neuro -ophthalmology and have developed a dedicated neuro -Orthoptist lead.
Job responsibilities
To act as a part of the team caring for a full case load of Orthoptic patients.
You will have special interest in stroke assessment, rehabilitation and demonstrate experience and competency in these areas.
You will be using Octopus/Goldmann field testing equipment. You will provide care and support to those going through life changing experiences with good knowledge of local support services and rehab strategies.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Professional Registration
* Bachelor of Science in Orthoptics: BSc (Orth), BMedSci (Orth) and/or Diploma in British Orthoptics (DBO)
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* Evidence of experience in a wide range of orthoptic practices
* City & Guilds (or equivalent) teaching qualification
* Evidence of wider interest/audit/research in specialist area
* Demonstrates enthusiasm/motivation towards specialist area
* Member of British & Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS)
Experience
* Experience of work within Orthoptic stroke/neuro services
* Knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
* Experience working as part of a team: uniprofessional and multi- Professional
* Audit and research experience
* Teaching experience
Skills
* Specialist clinical skills in all areas of Orthoptics
* Ability to analyse and prioritise complex medical information to help devise appropriate specialist care plans
* Ability to present information, both orally and written, in a clear, logical manner
