The role The Head of Air Traffic Services is responsible for maintaining the provision of Air Traffic Navigation Services at East Midlands Airport, in line with UK CAA regulations. This role includes ensuring that Air Traffic Services are safe and comply with appropriate regulatory requirements, through the production of documents, processes, auditing and monitoring. In addition, you will manage the people aspects of the team as Head of Department, and represent Air Traffic on various committees both internally and externally. You will be responsible for the appropriate and sensible management of the departmental budget, training plan, people development and succession planning. Responsibilities will include Working with Airfield Operations, Senior Management and Engineering to ensure East Midlands Airport provides safe and compliant air traffic control. Developing staff recruitment to ensure an adequate number of suitably qualified, trained, and competent staff is maintained Developing a strong working environment and culture to ensure the department runs smoothly and safely. Ensuring that staff receive the required initial training, experience and continuation training to enable them to carry out their duties safely and that appropriate monitoring takes place to maintain the standards of all Air Traffic Control Staff What will make you successful in the role? We are looking therefore for someone who is currently or who has previously (but recently) been a qualified Air Traffic Controller. It is important that you can lead from the front, and contribute equitably to negotiations and discussions, You may be currently be the Head of Air Traffic services, or alternatively a Watch Manager, maybe even a Senior ATCo, looking to take your first step into a Head of role. Previous experience of delivering Air Traffic Control projects, such as Airspace Change is very desirable. As is understanding the wider Air Traffic Control landscape in the UK. The ideal candidate will show strong people management skills - be able to lead from the front and inspire confidence, whilst working with the team to create an excellent working environment. All of this goes hand in hand with demonstrating that you can manage the safety, technical and regulatory requirements of both the team and the airport.
