Job Profile for CNC Turner / Miller - MC268564
We are seeking a CNC Turner / Miller for a family-owned valve manufacturer based in Basingstoke. The ideal candidate will have experience in CNC turning and milling.
The CNC Machinist will produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes (e.g., Hurco) and vertical milling machines, primarily focusing on turning.
Responsibilities include operating traditional lathes and milling machines safely and efficiently in our bearing repair workshop, determining necessary fixtures, attachments, and tools, and mounting them correctly before machining.
Key duties:
1. Discuss project instructions and specifications with engineers and supervisors to ensure alignment with plans.
2. Collaborate with colleagues to modify designs when necessary.
3. Adjust machine speed, tooling, and cutting styles to ensure precision across various ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
4. Write and interpret CNC programs for Fanuc, Siemens, and Hurco controls.
5. Oversee the cutting process, make real-time adjustments, and identify mistakes promptly.
6. Manage machine operating parameters, including temperature and tool wear.
7. Review and modify cutting plans as needed, entering them into control systems.
8. Inspect finished products for accuracy and quality.
9. Manage consumables such as lubricants, tips, and drills.
Minimum requirements:
* Higher school diploma or equivalent in mechanical engineering or machining.
* At least 3 years of hands-on CNC milling and turning experience in manufacturing, with a minimum of 1 year in a repair workshop. Experience with 4-Jaw chucks is advantageous.
* Understanding of materials handling, including crane driving and slinging.
* Skills in manual and CNC machining, including milling and 4-jaw chuck turning.
* Proficiency in CNC software and hardware programming.
* Strong problem-solving skills, especially regarding worn or distorted parts and ambiguous instructions.
* Excellent communication skills in English.
Salary ranges from £30,000 to £38,000 depending on experience. Other benefits include flexible hours, hybrid work options, 25 days of holiday plus statutory days, scope for career progression, and sick pay.
