Overview
The postholder’s duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital but the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s other sites.
A whole‑time/part‑time post as a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care is available at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Applications are welcome from those who wish to job share. Candidates who are qualified in Intensive Care Medicine with or without another specialty or Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists with an interest in Intensive Care are encouraged to apply.

Clinical Responsibilities
* Provide intensive care and anaesthetic services to cardiothoracic patients as part of a team of consultants in the Trust.
* Provide direct care of admissions, lead ward rounds, run follow‑up outpatient clinics and consultations for critically ill inpatients on the Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit.
* Offer anaesthesia for cardiac, thoracic, and cardiological procedures dependent on expertise and service needs.
* Patients include adult cardiothoracic and cardiology patients; unit receives >1500 admissions per year, including planned and emergency cases.
* Work pattern: 12‑hour resident day shifts, non‑resident overnight on‑calls; covered by dedicated consultants 24/7.
Teaching & Research
* Participate in teaching clinical students, training doctors, and conducting clinical examinations.
* Incorporate teaching, training and research activities into the regular job plan.
Clinical Governance
* Participate in clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, patient safety investigations, quality improvement, and compliance with external accrediting bodies.
Personal and Professional Development
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge in the relevant area of practice; demonstrate proficiency to the Trust.
* Make available study leave (currently 30 days over a 3‑year period) for postgraduate training, CME courses and other development needs.
Management & Administration
* Work within Trust management policies and procedures; ensure efficiency and resource management.
* Complete administrative duties associated with patient care and clinical service management under direction of lead clinician or directorate chair.
