As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering our ambitious growth plans and ensuring our customers receive best-in-class security solutions. You will influence high-level decision-making, drive innovation, and guide engineering teams toward excellence. Key Responsibilities Define technical vision and strategy for engineering projects. Lead large-scale, complex projects with high business impact. Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance across teams and departments. Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and methodologies. Establish best practices, standards, and long-term technical goals. Work closely with executive leadership to align engineering goals with business objectives. Full compliance with the DeterTech stage/gate development process. Requirements Degree qualification within a suitable discipline, masters is a bonus. 10 years of engineering experience with a track record of leadership. Deep expertise in engineering principles, industry trends, and emerging technologies. Strong ability to influence technical direction at an organizational level. Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills. Experience in mentoring, coaching, and developing engineering talent. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Proven experience in product lifecycle design and support within a mechanical team setting. Comfortable working within a disciplined and process driven development environment. Safety by design mindset, with working knowledge of tools such as DFMEA. Practical experience applying disciplined problem-solving tools and process, such as 8D. Competent with Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA). Ability to present and explain mechanical product designs to colleagues, management, and stakeholders. Proficiency in creating detailed mechanical drawings and models using design software, such as SolidWorks or similar tool(s). Experience with reviewing and releasing drawings and assembly drawings to manufacturers. Hands-on experience designing and building mechanical and mechatronic components. Ability to prepare cost estimates for products and technical solutions. Experience in defining and performing verification & validation activities from first principles, including simulation, worst-case analysis, and bench testing. Strong testing and diagnostic skills to drive product improvements. Experience with variety of manufacturing methods for plastics and metals. A solid Understanding of FEA simulations.
