Lead Mechanical Design on High-Profile Projects
A nationally respected multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong UK presence is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Birmingham office. Known for delivering innovative, sustainable building services solutions, this is an exciting opportunity to lead complex mechanical designs across healthcare, education, commercial, and infrastructure sectors.
You’ll play a pivotal role in project delivery, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to technically challenging and sustainable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design on HVAC systems, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water services
Prepare detailed calculations, specifications, technical reports, and design drawings
Manage project deliverables from concept through construction and commissioning
Coordinate with electrical, sustainability, and other engineering disciplines to deliver fully integrated MEP solutions
Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff
Engage directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure design quality
Keep up-to-date with UK building regulations, industry standards, and emerging technologies
Contribute to business development activities and strengthen client relationships
Promote sustainable and low-carbon solutions within mechanical designs
Candidate Requirements
Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (IMechE or CIBSE)
6+ years’ experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment
Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and sustainability standards
Proven experience in HVAC, chilled water, heating, ventilation, and controls design
Proficient in mechanical design software (Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar)
Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
Ability to lead technical discussions and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
