Role objective There is an exciting opportunity for an Investment Manager role within the Forestry Division at Gresham House. The role will be located in either Witney (in Oxfordshire), or Edinburgh. The role will be multifaceted but split into two broad components: to assist the acquisitions team in the acquisition and asset management of commercial and carbon forestry assets both in the UK and internationally, together with supporting activity across the forestry division during a carefully managed induction and training phase. carbon modelling and natural capital development are an important aspect of forestry investment management. The ideal candidate will understand the relevance and value of forest carbon sequestration and sustainable investing, as well as having a working knowledge of the differing carbon codes and regulations. In addition to this, the candidate will provide support in the development of natural capital opportunities. Key responsibilities / accountabilities Support the forestry investment team through: Analysis of financial statements, preparing and updating financial models and projections. Due diligence of acquisition materials and help in checking and forming transaction documents. The investment Manager will be expected to become proficient in sourcing, analysing and valuing UK and international forestry assets. They will understand the asset management process for a forest or new planting scheme, how to value that forest on an on-going basis and most importantly how to communicate the operational and value updates to investors in an efficient and accurate manner. Helping integrate new acquisitions into the asset management process. Comprehensive research and analysis of background materials, market information and financial data. Preparing and updating carbon models and projections. Development and delivery of natural capital projects with wider team. Oversight of biodiversity monitoring. Management of relationships with 3rd party natural capital consultants. Preparing draft correspondence, presentations, and following up on internal emails. Intra team communication and resource management. Knowledge and interest in forestry, carbon sequestration and sustainable investing. Skills and experience Bachelor degree or Masters in a relevant subject with a preference to having Finance / Accounting / Maths content. Added value to have attained, or making progress towards CFA / recognised accountancy qualification. An understanding of carbon markets and a passion for sustainability. 4-7 years' experience in investment analysis or management, ideally from an Investment / Asset Management / Private Equity firm in a similar position. Fluency in English. Proven ability to manage substantial elements of and/or whole deals. The ability to provide in-depth analysis across a range of deal types. Proven ability to take initiative and add-value to deals. Strong quantitative and numerical skills with the ability to interpret financial information accounts and understanding of accounting principles and create financial models. Excellent communication, presentation, research and financial analysis skills. Ability to work without supervision and demonstrate initiative. Attention to detail and able to work at pace.
