About us
We are seeking a skilled Highway Engineer to join our Highways Construction Services team based at Swinton Hall Road depot in Salford City Council. This key role involves supporting the planning, costing, and delivery of highway drainage, maintenance, and infrastructure projects (small and large) across the City. Our team manages approximately £10m annually on a variety of construction projects, including drainage, highway maintenance, traffic, and street lighting works, delivered both in-house and externally via Framework Contracts. We offer a competitive salary, local authority benefits, and opportunities for professional development.
About the Role
This varied and exciting role requires supporting the preparation of accurate cost estimates using Framework Contracts to facilitate highway drainage, construction, and maintenance projects. You will interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities, liaise with project managers, designers, contractors, and site teams to ensure estimates meet project requirements. Additionally, you will assist highway supervisors in developing and delivering drainage asset management plans, surface water management plans, drainage investigations, and cyclical gully regimes.
About you
You should hold a Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, with engineering/technical understanding and practical experience of drainage and highway functions. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential. A full UK Driving Licence for site visits is required. Proven experience in estimating or engineering within the highways or civil engineering sector, along with strong numerical and analytical skills, proficiency in Framework Contracts, and MS Excel, are critical for this role.
