Functional Skills Tutor - Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre (Campsfield IRC).
We are looking for respectful, diligent and caring colleagues to join our team at Campsfield IRC, the UK's first all-electric Immigration Removal Centre.
Job objectives and responsibilities
* Actively promote and design educational activities and vocational courses including online learning and assessment processes to meet residents1s needs and contractual requirements.
* Conduct workshops focused on relevant skills, addressing residents1 needs and fulfilling contractual obligations.
* Provide a safe, secure, stimulating, supportive and productive learning environment that encourages attendance and enables residents to learn and develop.
Main duties
* Promote educational courses throughout the Centre including Maths and English; explain opportunities and relevance as part of the Preparation for Release programme to maximise uptake.
* Assess ESOL and skills levels of learners, ensuring sufficient language skills to enrol and making adaptations to overcome barriers to learning.
* Develop and deliver core modular courses and appropriate advanced modules; support learners to achieve learning objectives with engaging teaching.
* Deliver the OCN Vocational Skills programme with standards of delivery and quality assurance.
* Provide a short induction to residents to welcome them and ensure activities are relevant and interesting.
* Work with staff and residents to provide artistic support for cultural events; develop, promote and deliver workshops enabling residents to gain transferable skills.
* Deliver activities, competitions, events and projects to support learning objectives; create and maintain a safe, positive and welcoming learning environment.
* Monitor attendance, retention and achievement figures and help develop strategies to maximise these measures.
* Complete all documentation and administration in line with company policies and external agency requirements; maintain accurate, compliant data.
* Use resources effectively to ensure quality of service and value for money; manage the learning environment and ensure equipment meets standards.
* Advise on equipment and purchases necessary to meet contractual requirements and best practice in education.
* Support Regimes & Activities and other areas as required to ensure continuity of service and delivery of vocational courses.
Person Specification
Essential
* An appropriate teaching qualification and experience.
* In-depth knowledge of vocational skills in their area of specialism.
* Previous teaching experience within a related subject.
Desirable
* Experience of delivering relevant skills workshops/training.
* Experience within a custodial setting.
* Experience of working with ESOL learners; patient and understanding attitude to language problems is essential.
Care + Custody Competencies
* Resident Care and Management: build rapport, stay impartial, treat residents with respect, listen carefully, explain issues clearly, help residents meet their needs, show empathy, and encourage participation.
* Other competencies as listed cover communication, safety, and support for residents.
You must be eligible for CTC clearance and hold a valid British passport or an EU passport with a share code. You must have lived and worked in the UK for at least 3 years with no criminal convictions and no ongoing police investigations.
