We are seeking a tenacious, capable, and well-organised individual to support our Technical and Commercial teams. This role is designed to develop into a Microbiology Specialist position within the business. Role Summary You will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to support the growth of our microbiology product range, particularly in industrial applications. These include pharmaceutical manufacturing, food and beverage testing, water testing, clinical and veterinary applications, and specialist microbiology sectors. The role involves supporting new product development, improving product margins, and generating high-quality technical content. You will be instrumental in managing product data and ensuring its accuracy across our platforms. Key Responsibilities Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to gather and update product costing information Draft technical documents in collaboration with the Technical Manager Maintain accurate and up-to-date product data on the company website Create new product listings and technical datasheets Develop product catalogues and distributor-specific lists Support improvements to backend systems and business functionality Assist with the creation of technical marketing content, including product features, literature, and digital/print materials Maintain cost pricing and produce margin reports using the in-house ERP system (Sage 200) Update and maintain customer price books Daily Tasks Analyse and curate data related to raw materials and product costs to optimise pricing strategies Work extensively with large Excel datasets, including formulas and macros Coordinate with technical colleagues to develop and maintain documentation and website content Collaborate with commercial teams on the development of marketing materials, adverts, and communications Ideal Candidate Profile Degree in Life Sciences (BSc, MRes, MSc, PhD) or equivalent technical experience Practical knowledge of microbiology testing in ISO or pharmacopeia-regulated environments Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel A strong interest in, and intuitive grasp of, new technologies and IT systems Self-disciplined and able to work independently High attention to detail, with strong analytical and organisational skills Able to communicate clearly and logically Efficient, decisive, and practical, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Strong communication skills and the ability to retain information effectively Desirable Skills & Experience Familiarity with culture media microbiology products Experience in product development, sterile manufacturing, quality control, or quality assurance Experience managing WordPress-based websites and CMS platforms About SGL At SGL, we believe in empowering individuals to grow their careers within our business.
