Academics are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Pastoral Support Worker to join a specialist SEN school in Gloucester, supporting children and young people aged 5–16. This Pastoral Support Worker role is vital in helping pupils overcome personal and emotional barriers so they can succeed both inside and outside the classroom. You’ll be joining a supportive, collaborative team with access to ongoing training and professional development, equipping you with the skills to make a lasting impact on young people’s lives.
Key Responsibilities of the Pastoral Support Worker:
* Provide emotional, social and wellbeing support tailored to individual students
* Work closely with teachers, families, and external professionals such as CAMHS to achieve the best outcomes
* Support pupils in overcoming barriers to learning including attendance, relationship building, and behaviour challenges
* Deliver 1:1 and small group sessions that promote confidence, resilience, and positive behaviour
* Safeguard and promote the welfare of all students at all times
What we’re looking for as a Pastoral Support Worker:
* Previous experience supporting children or young people in a pastoral, mentoring, counselling or similar capacity
* Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust with pupils and families
* A calm, empathetic, and nurturing approach to support
* Understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices
* Ability to work effectively both independently and within a wider team
