Job Description
Grid Modernisation is a key sector of growth within AECOM’s wider energy business. This covers major electrical grid upgrade projects being delivered by Transmission and Distribution network operators; through to the connection of new generators (e.g. renewables) and large scale demand to the network. These investments in critical energy infrastructure present a large scale opportunity for AECOM, building upon our existing work supporting clients such as National Grid as part of the Great Grid Partnership (GGP). There is set to be c.£70bn of investment in the GB electricity network alone over the next 10 years, which will require significant works across multiple AECOM services areas, including environmental impact, consenting, engineering design, and project/programme management.

We are looking to appoint a dedicated Capture Manager who will lead on pursuits across the Grid Modernisation sector predominantly focused on supporting the T&D sub-business unit within Energy. The individual will own the delivery of successful proposals across a range of clients and projects, and also act as the link between technical delivery and our existing work winning process.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Growth Strategy & Opportunity Shaping
* Drives growth through the ability to position for and capture key opportunities including both new business opportunities and the renewal / extension of existing opportunities within key accounts
* Lead a holistic approach to capture strategy development, including client listening, win strategy creation, solution development, marcomms planning, answer planning, review through to debrief and lessons learnt
* Partner with bid, marketing, technical, operations and commercial teams to prepare Capture Plans for complex proposals
* Help to build and maintain a diversified pipeline of qualified opportunities, ensuring alignment with business goals. Use data-led client, pipeline and performance intelligence to focus on capture activities which add the most value and return on investment
* Own and champion the pursuit strategy for major water-sector opportunities through the complete sales lifecycle from capture / positioning stage, through PQQ, ITT, BAFO, Interview, De-brief / Lessons Learned
* Shape opportunities early by influencing scope, delivery models, and commercial structures through proactive market engagement and client positioning
* Help to build and maintain a diversified pipeline of qualified opportunities, ensuring alignment with business goals. Use data-led client, pipeline and performance intelligence to focus on capture activities which add the most value and return on investment
* Have an external presence, fostering relationships with clients and partners to increase our understanding of opportunity drivers
* Has strong market, marketing and technical knowledge, which is relevant to the opportunity being pursued
* Drive integrated strategies to improve capture and win rates and secure transformative programs.
* Analyse competitive landscapes, leveraging insights from recent wins and losses to refine strategies
Partnering & Consortium Leadership
* Identify, select, and lead strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and consortiums to strengthen competitive position
* Build trusted relationships with delivery partners, designers, contractors, technology providers, and supply chain organisations
* Define partner roles, responsibilities, and value contribution to create integrated, compelling solutions
* Act as the senior representative of the business in partner negotiations and alliance discussions
Client Engagement & Positioning
* Build and maintain senior-level client relationships across Grid modernisation clients, regulators, and public-sector bodies
* Lead executive-level engagement during pre-procurement and procurement phases, positioning the business as a partner of choice
* Own the client narrative: why us, why this team, and why this approach
Commercial & Strategic Oversight
* Set the strategic commercial direction for major pursuits, including delivery models, risk appetite, pricing, and value proposition
* Provide senior challenge and assurance that proposed solutions are deliverable, differentiated, and commercially sound
* Retain accountability for overall commercial outcomes and long-term value, not bid mechanics
Leadership & Influence
* Provide clear strategic direction to bid team members, commercial and technical leaders
* Influence senior internal stakeholders to align resources, partners, and priorities behind priority pursuits
* Act as a visible leader for growth, collaboration, and external engagement within the water business
* Ability to communicate pursuit priorities clearly across market sectors to executive, regional and business line leadership, to ensure resources are made available and win strategies are supported including evaluation and selection of strategic teaming partners
* Guides technical writers to develop dynamic and compelling content, that is both compliant and compelling/persuasive

Here’s what we’re looking for:
* Demonstrated experience in shaping and leading teams to win major contracts and frameworks within energy or other critical infrastructure sectors
* Experience analysing competitive landscapes, leveraging insights from recent wins and losses to refine strategies
* Strong technical and delivery experience, able to understand client technical drivers and requirements and translate these into compelling bids that meet client needs
* An excellent communicator. Strong understanding of and demonstrated experience of leadership throughout the bid/sales process at all stages, including facilitating workshops with diverse teams
* Strong awareness of partnering models
* Deep commercial judgement and strategic thinking, with the ability to balance risk, value, and long-term positioning
* An understanding of the UK energy market and major stakeholders within the industry
* Experience operating in matrix organisations with separate bid management and delivery functions
