Job Title: Focused Investigation of Rape Support Officer (FIRST)

Contract: 18-Month initial contract (from 7 April 2026)

Hours: 36.25 per week (Full Time)

Posts Available: 4 x Full time positions

Location: Nexus House, Ashton-under-Lyne (with regular travel across GMP Districts)

Pay: £18.98 per hour PAYE

About the Role

We are seeking four experienced and highly skilled PIP2 accredited investigators to join the newly established Focused Investigation of Rape Support Team (FIRST) on an 18-month contract.

This is a specialist support role designed to improve the quality and effectiveness of response to adult victims of rape and attempted rape (O’16). The team will provide dedicated tactical, practical and evidential guidance to District CID investigators, strengthening investigative standards from initial report through to court outcome.

* You will act as a subject matter expert and mentor, supporting investigators and supervisors to deliver suspect-focused, context-led and victim-centred investigations, improving case file quality and Criminal Justice outcomes.Key ObjectivesImprove investigative quality and outcomes in adult rape and attempted rape cases.
* Provide mentoring, advice and practical support to PIP2 investigators and supervisors.
* Increase confidence in investigative decision-making and rationale.
* Embed proactive engagement with CPS through Early Advice.
* Strengthen evidential reviews and case file standards in line with DG6.
* Reduce case file failures and Criminal Justice demand.
* Promote victim-centred approaches, minimising disengagement.

Main Responsibilities

* Investigation SupportProvide hands-on tactical advice to frontline PIP2 rape investigators.
* Support Officers in the Case (OICs) from report to conclusion.
* Guide investigative strategy, lines of enquiry and suspect-focused activity.
* Deliver monthly face-to-face case clinics across Districts.
* Promote effective use of Early Advice and CPS engagement.
* Support development of clear investigative rationales and lawful case closures.
* Strengthen operational links between OICs and ISVAs to maintain victim engagement.
* Evidential Review & Case File QualityEmbed a “Getting It Right First Time” ethos.
* Support Detective Sergeants in pre- and post-charge evidential reviews.
* Ensure compliance with the Director’s Guidance on Charging (DG6).
* Improve understanding of Threshold and Full Code Tests.
* Reduce Case File Action Plans and CJ failure demand.
* Partnership & TrainingWork closely with CPS RASSO Unit lawyers.
* Improve police–lawyer communication and case progression.
* Identify and deliver RASSO-related training opportunities across GMP.
* Promote emerging best practice, including Op Soteria principles.
* Continuous ImprovementIdentify themes and improvement areas across District rape investigations.
* Contribute to policy dissemination and operational consistency.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, policy and joint agency protocols.
* Essential CriteriaApplicants must hold current PIP2 accreditation You must also demonstrate:
o Extensive experience conducting serious and complex investigations.
o Experience interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects to PIP2 standards.
o Strong working knowledge of Director’s Guidance on Charging (DG6).
o Practical understanding and application of Op Soteria principles.
o Experience supervising or coordinating specialist resources.
o Strong understanding of offender behaviour (including grooming, coercion, control) and victim trauma dynamics in RASSO cases.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Ability to produce high-quality advisory reports.
o Strong presentation and briefing skills.
o Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle.
o DesirableWorking knowledge of GMP PoliceWorks RMS.
o SCCAIDP (TBC).
o Interview Advisor Development Programme.
o RISDP.
o DA Matters.
