Were excited to offer an opportunity to join our Outbound Customer Communications team (OCC) as a Quality Assurance Testing (QAT) Analyst - a key role in ensuring our Communications solutions both Paper and Digital based are robust, reliable and deliver real value. Youll be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team thats transforming how we work across HMRC. This is a manual testing role focused on validating our Communications products. Youll ensure that processes built using Quadient software meet business requirements and perform reliably in live environments following extensive testing.

Youll work closely with developers, product owners, delivery managers and business experts to ensure our Communications products meet signed-off requirements and deliver high-quality outcomes.
Youll lead on test requirements such as test cases, identify and set up test data, execute manual tests, manage individual projects from a test perspective within the team and carry out Post Go Live Testing. Your attention to detail and ability to spot gaps in requirements will be crucial to our success. Youll also play a key role in mentoring others and promoting best practice across our centralised testing community.

Job description
As a QAT Analyst in HMRCs OCC team, you will be a vital contributor to the project development lifecycle, ensuring that Communication solutions meet signed-off requirements and deliver high-quality outcomes. Using Quadient Software, youll help to ensure our Communication Products meet the needs of our customers by validating and assuring developed code.
Youll collaborate closely with product owners, business experts, developers, delivery managers and business analysts to design and execute comprehensive testing strategies. Your work will ensure that every communications product is robust, reliable, and aligned with business expectations.
Person specification
You will play a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of communications. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, execute, and continuously improve testing approaches that align with user needs and operational goals.
You will be expected to demonstrate the following skills at Working Level:
* Communicating between the technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Designing and executing tests
* Managing, reporting and retesting defects
* Test Analysis
* Test Planning

Key Responsibilities will include:
* Collaborate with product owners, subject matter experts, developers, delivery managers and other stakeholders throughout the project development lifecycle.
* Review and analyse requirements documentation to identify gaps and ensure clarity.
* Prepare and develop test artefacts including delivery plans, test data, test reports and feed into end-to-end test scenarios that cut across different teams.
* Execute manual tests, validating outcomes against expected results.
* Identify, log, and track defects; perform regression testing to ensure fixes are effective and stable.
* Collate test evidence to support sign-off from product owners.
* Champion quality assurance practices and mentor colleagues to foster continuous improvement.
* Support the promotion of OCC capabilities across Chief Product and Digital office (CDPO) and the wider HMRC.

Essential Criteria
Testing Delivery and Methodology
* Proven experience in manual software testing, with a strong understanding of testing strategies, phases and methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid).

Requirements and Defect Analysis
* Ability to analyse and break down business requirements into test scenarios, identify gaps, and manage defects through structured tracking and resolution.

Quality Assurance and Accuracy
* Demonstrated attention to detail in assuring high levels of quality by comparing expected vs actual outcomes and ensuring robust test coverage.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience engaging stakeholders across technical and non-technical domains to support collaborative delivery.

Work Planning and Adaptability
* Skilled in using tools such as Microsoft Teams and Planner to manage work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, evolving environments.
* Experience working with Communication Software for paper and digital products (e.g. Quadient).
* Experience working with structured data formats and query languages such as JSON, XML.

Desirable Criteria
* ISTQB Foundation in Software Testing or equivalent testing certification.
* Knowledge of HMRC systems, data structures and operational processes.

Hybrid working at HMRC
