The Visual Impairment Service is seeking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated teachers to join the team. This position is offered on a permanent basis and is peripatetic in nature. Although based in Dumfries, the role will serve localities across Dumfries and Galloway. Applications are welcomed from those seeking both full-time and part-time positions.
Applicants should have extensive teaching experience and be committed to removing barriers to learning for pupils with visual impairments. The successful candidate must be willing to undertake training in Braille and obtain Teacher of the Visually Impaired qualifications.
A significant relocation package of up to £5000 may be available to the successful candidate (for permanent positions only). Please see the attached guidance for further details.
Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT, in the appropriate sector.
This post is classified as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check before a formal offer of employment is made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have resided outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, will need to provide a police record check from the relevant authorities in the country or countries of residence, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check.
