About the role
* Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
* Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
* Acting as Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture, including all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
* Owning company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable and sufficient arrangements are in place and managed effectively.
* Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs in conjunction with the Head of Safety & Risk to promote positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
* Building positive relationships and maintaining dialogue with internal and external stakeholders interested in the company's safety and legal compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Bodies).
* Ensuring all incidents and accidents are fully investigated by trained colleagues, with escalations as necessary, and liaising with external stakeholders like emergency services and media.

About you
* At least Nebosh Level 3 qualification or equivalent
* Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems, with relevant qualifications
* Auditing qualifications and experience
* Environmental Risk qualifications
* Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis
* Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
* A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
