About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SENCO Lead to join our passionate team at Tender Years Day Nursery. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children with special educational needs and their families.
As our SENCO Lead, you will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the provision of special educational needs support across our nursery, ensuring every child receives the individualised care and attention they deserve.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate special educational needs provision across all age groups
* Conduct assessments and develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
* Work closely with parents, external agencies, and healthcare professionals
* Support and mentor staff in implementing SEN strategies
* Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with SEND Code of Practice
* Liaise with local authorities and co-ordinate transitions to primary school
* Provide training and guidance to nursery staff on SEN best practices
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEN provision
Essential Requirements
* Level 3 qualification in Childcare (or equivalent)
* SENCO qualification or willingness to work towards it
* Proven experience working with children with special educational needs
* Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams
* Compassionate, patient, and understanding approach
* Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
Desirable Qualifications
* Additional SEN-related qualifications or training
* Experience in a nursery or early years setting
* Knowledge of Makaton or other communication systems
* Understanding of child development and early intervention strategies
