Mechanical Engineer – Composites Technical Authority
Location: Leatherhead or Bristol
Salary: £70,000 to £90,000 per annum, depending on experience. Working pattern: flexible hybrid – time split between the office and working from home.
Responsibilities
* Oversee complex, multidisciplinary programmes, ensuring quality, innovation and delivery excellence.
* Act as a Technical Authority, providing oversight, assurance and guidance on critical engineering decisions.
* Shape long‑term strategy for composites capability, including identifying growth areas and emerging technologies.
* Set technical direction for composite structural analysis and design across multiple projects and sectors.
* Define and evolve methodologies, tools and standards for composite analysis and life assessment.
* Support innovation in advanced finite element modelling, damage tolerance and life extension strategies.
* Build and maintain senior client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
* Support and shape new business, contributing to proposals and strategic growth.
* Lead, mentor and develop effective technical teams.
* Encourage a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.
* Represent Frazer‑Nash externally through thought leadership and industry engagement.
Typical Technical Challenges
* Development of life extension and structural integrity strategies.
* Advanced finite element analysis of composite structures under extreme loads.
* Assessment of structures under impact loads.
* Creation of best‑practice design and analysis guidance.
* Supporting the development and optimisation of next‑generation products.
Essential Requirements
* Significant experience in the design, analysis or manufacture of composite structures.
* Proven track record in leading complex structural analysis programmes.
* Deep knowledge of composite structural behaviour.
* Strong understanding of engineering codes, standards and assurance processes.
* Demonstrable experience in technical leadership, project direction or capability development.
Beneficial but not Essential
* Proficiency with major finite element analysis tools (e.g. Abaqus, Ansys).
* Experience with programming (e.g. Python, MATLAB) to support advanced analysis or automation.
* Experience working in regulated or safety‑critical industries.
